‘Merry Christmas from the Tubas!’ Being Performed at the Frank House on Saturday, Dec. 12

Dr. Seth Fletcher
Department of Music and Performing Arts lecturer, 308.865.8632

The first “Merry Christmas from the Tubas!” will be performed at the Frank House on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m.

The event, which is free and open the public, will feature University of Nebraska at Kearney music and performing arts lecturer Dr. Seth Fletcher, along with eight UNK students and one UNK alumnus. Among the selections being performed are “Deck the Halls,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “Greensleeves” and “Joy to the World.”

“Being an ensemble comprised entirely low brass instruments creates a unique sound quality that has a distinct characteristic,” Dr. Fletcher said. “Playing music arranged for such an ensemble is also a valuable pedagogical tool as the parts are more challenging and intricate than many that the students would see in larger ensembles such as concert band, marching band or orchestra.”

“Thus, the students learn to play melodies and harmonies in a way that they’re perhaps not exposed to otherwise and have fun doing so in a unique, sonorous setting,” he said.
