More than 170 high school seniors from 19 high schools recently attended the annual Multicultural Scholars and Leaders Day conference hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The annual conference, which took place in the UNK Nebraskan Student Union, is free and open to all high school seniors, regardless of race or ethnicity.

“The Multicultural Scholars and Leaders Day conference is a recruiting tool sponsored jointly by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions,” said Juan Guzman, UNK Office of Multicultural Affairs director.

The conference opened with a welcome speech from UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen. Other presentations included the deans of each UNK college and the UNMC College of Nursing; Peg Abels of the Health Sciences Program; Mary Daake, Academic Advising director; Gary Davis, Honors Program director; and Dusty Newton, Undergraduate Recruitment director.

Participants had an opportunity to learn what each college offers during college break-out sessions. Financial aid and general scholarship information was shared during the lunch hour. Group tours of the campus with UNK student tour guides took place after lunch.
