Thirty-One Students Nominated for Homecoming Royalty at UNK

UNK- More than 30 students have been nominated as candidates for Homecoming 2009 royalty at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The 16 women and 15 men, all of whom are juniors or seniors, were nominated by student organizations. Preliminary voting takes place this week, and voting for finalists will take place during Homecoming Week, Oct. 12-17. Voting will take place via student e-mail accounts, and winners will be determined by popular vote.

Winners of the royalty competition will be announced after the 7 p.m. Lip Sync competition on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the UNK Health and Sports Center. The royalty and their court will be featured in the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The king, queen, members of the court and their families will join UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen in the Nebraskan Student Union Skybox to watch the football game. Royalty and the court will be introduced during half-time.

Homecoming nominees are listed below alphabetically by hometown, with king candidates listed first followed by queen candidates:

Homecoming King Candidates
Atkinson- Brian Flannery. Brian is the son of Jack and Sharie Flannery of Atkinson. He is representing Stout Hall. Brian is a junior majoring in mathematics and computer science.

Dalton- Blake Thompson. Blake is the son of Neal and Barb Thompson of Dalton. He is representing Nester South. Blake is a senior majoring in music education.

Dawson- Ben Clancy. Ben is the son of Steve and Cindy Clancy of Dawson. He is representing Randall Hall. Ben is a junior majoring in psychology.

Grand Island- Brad Green. Brad is the son of Kevin and Linda Green of Grand Island. He is representing Loper Liaisons. He is a senior majoring in secondary history and special education.

Grand Island- Bryan Mizner. Bryan is the son of Mike and Cindy Mizner of Grand Island. He is representing Nester North. He is a junior majoring in psychobiology.

Grand Island- Brandon Wissing. Brandon is the son of Deb and Randy Wissing of Grand Island. He is representing Martin Hall. He is a junior majoring in marketing with a minor in international business.

Holdrege- Cory Shield. Cory is the son of Terry and Robin Shield of Holdrege. He is representing Sigma Phi Epsilon. Cory is a senior majoring in pre-medicine and business administration with a biology minor.

Humphrey- Anthony McPhillips. Anthony is the son of Eugene and Maureen McPhillips of Humphrey. He is representing Mantor Hall. Anthony is a senior majoring in elementary education and Physical Education K-12.

Kearney- James Jelkin. James is the son of Jim and Connie Jelkin of Kearney. He is representing Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He is a senior majoring in organizational communications.

Morrill- Jordan Gonzales. Jordan is the son of Lupe and Josie Gonzales of Morrill. He is representing Student Government. He is a junior majoring in political science.

Platte Center- Clayton Kush. Clayton is the son of Ronald and Rhonda Kush of Platte Center. He is representing Sigma Tau Gamma. Clayton is a junior majoring in sports communication.

Wallace- Philip Lempke. Philip is the son of David and Mary Lempke of Wallace. He is representing Centennial Towers West (CTW). Philip is a junior majoring in computer science.

Wayne- Josh Fink. Josh is the son of Jay and Erika Fink of Wayne. He is representing Antelope Hall. He is a junior majoring in criminal justice.

Wayne- Nate Summerfield. Nate is the son of Sheryl and the late Marty Summerfield of Wayne. He is representing Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Nate is a junior majoring in business finance with a minor in political science.

NEPAL
Kathmandu- Ramesh Neupane. Ramesh is the son of Renuka Neupane of Kathmandu, Nepal. He is representing the International Student Association, Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), and the Nepalese Student Association at Kearney (NESAK). Ramesh is a junior majoring in pre-nursing.

Homecoming Queen Candidates:

Boelus- Emily Anderson. Emily is the daughter of Neil and MaryAnn Anerson of Boelus. She is representing Nester North. Emily is a criminal justice and psychology major.

Creston- Emily Wemhoff. Emily is the daughter of David and Geraldine Wemhoff of Creston. She is representing Mantor Hall. Emily is a junior majoring in public relations with a psychology minor.

Elgin- Krystine Hoefer. Krystine is the daughter of Bob and Jaci Hoefer of Elgin. She represents Alpha Phi. She is a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in criminal justice.
Grand Island- Andrea May. Andrea is the daughter of Chris and Ellen May of Grand Island. She is representing Antelope Hall. Andrea is a junior majoring in elementary education with a coaching endorsement.

Grand Island- Ana Mendoza. Ana is the daughter of Blanca and Melro Mendoza of Grand Island. She is representing Hispanic Student Association. Ana is a senior majoring in elementary education K-6 with an ESL endorsement and a minor in social science.

Kearney- Sarah Nordhues. Sarah is the daughter of Bob and Patti Nordhues of Kearney. She is representing Loper Liaisons. Sarah is a junior majoring in elementary and special education.

Lexington- Alexis Luther. Alexis is the daughter of Larry and Ann Luther of Lexington. She is representing Gamma Phi Beta. She is a senior, psychology/pre-law major with a Spanish minor.

Lexington- Tanya Maloley. Tanya is the daughter of Jayson and Elaine Maloley of Lexington. She is representing Lambda Theta Nu sorority. Tanya is a junior majoring in criminal justice with a minor in social work.

Lincoln- Margot Nason. Margot is the daughter of Scott and Janet Nason of Lincoln. She is representing Nester South. Margot is a junior majoring in criminal justice/pre-veterinary medicine.

Lincoln- Meagan Smejdir. Meagan is the daughter of Randy and Lynne Smejdir of Lincoln. She is representing Alpha Omicron Pi. Meagan is a senior majoring in Spanish translation/ interpretation.

Bogota- Maria Rojas. Maria is the daughter of Santiago and Consuelo Rojas of Bogota, Columbia. She is representing International Student Association, Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), and the Nepalese Student Association at Kearney (NESAK). She is majoring in art.
