Family Day this Saturday (Oct. 3) on the UNK Campus

UNK– Family Day activities at the University of Nebraska at Kearney are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, in the Nebraskan Student Union.

The day will begin with a financial aid workshop at 9 a.m. titled, “Finances for the Future.” The workshop will take place in Room 219 of the Fine Arts Building, followed by a “Chemistry Spectacular.” At 9:30 a.m., comedian Wes Harrison, “Mr. Sound Effects,” will perform in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.

College receptions will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union. The college representatives and locations include: Dr. Tim Burkink, dean, College of Business and Technology, Sandhills Room; Dr. Ed Scantling, dean, College of Education, Room 142; Dr. William Jurma, dean, College of Fine Arts and Humanities, second floor balcony; Dr. Robert Rycek, dean, College of Natural and Social Sciences, Cedar Room; Steve Pitkin, assistant dean, UNMC College of Nursing, Room 142A; and Mary Daake, coordinator of Academic Advising for deciding students, Fireplace Lounge.

UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen will announce the “UNK Outstanding Family” award at the family brunch. The brunch will begin at 11:15 a.m. at Copeland Memorial Fountain. Adult tickets are $6 each; student/children’s tickets, $4 each. After the chancellor speaks, UNK Athletic Director Jon McBride and Loper Programming and Activities Council President (LPAC) Ashley Wegener of Humphrey will speak.

“During the Family Brunch, the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band will march by the picnic to the football field for their ‘pre-game spectacular’ at 12:50 p.m.,” said Tim Danube, UNK Nebraskan Student Union associate director.

The UNK football game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Foster Field, and the UNK women’s volleyball game is set for 7 p.m. at the Health and Sports Center.
