UNK- The Frank House, an historic mansion on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, will kickoff the Saturday Afternoon at the Frank House Series with a Fall Family Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Fall Family Fun Day is free and open to the public. Registration will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a welcome and instructions. Victorian games that were popular in the late 1800s, when the Frank House was built, will be played from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Families and friends will join in Victorian games such as the flying feather, spuds and spoons, hunt the slipper, and statues throughout the afternoon. The grand finale will be the party bag game, the Victorian’s equivalent to the piñata complete with treats on the veranda.
Paula Nesiba, a Frank House volunteer, organized the Fall Family Fun Day at the Frank House. Nesiba began volunteering at the Frank House last year. Since then she has spent numerous hours serving as a volunteer, even receiving a grant from Wal-Mart for her service hours.
“We hope to make this event another Frank House tradition,” said KrisAnn Sullivan, director of the historic Frank House. “It links past, present and future….and what better place than the Frank House!” All Saturday Afternoon at the Frank House programs begin at 1:30 p.m., and are led, organized and presented by volunteers. Further, all are free and open to the public. In all, 10 programs are planned this semester.
Upcoming events at the Frank House include the first family and friends card-making workshop, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 3. The
workshop will be led by Connie Wine. Preregistration is required, because seating is limited to the first 15 registrants. To register, contact Wine at rcwine@gmail.com or 308.236.5905.
