NEWS CONFERENCE:

There will be a news conference at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, to announce the installation of “On the Shoulders of Giants,” artwork that is being installed on the west side of Bruner Hall of Science on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.

Installation of the work, sculptured brick featuring images depicting each of the sciences housed in the building, began on Monday. The artwork is being financed by the 1 percent of construction costs that must be dedicated to artwork on state building projects.

Unlike much artwork that is either hung on the walls or placed on stands inside a building, the bas-relief work is being installed on the exterior of the structure and is composed of the same material that created the building addition — Nebraska brick. And it was created by Nebraska artists–Tom Meyers of Lincoln and Jay Tschetter of Denton.

NEWS CONFERENCE SPEAKERS:

Dr. Robert Rycek, dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences and chair of the committee that selected the artists, will open the news conference with information about the selection of artists, Jay Tschetter and Tom Meyers from Images in Brick in Denton.

Artist Tom Meyers, who designed the work in collaboration with Jay Tschetter, will discuss the concepts being expressed in the piece.

Artist Jay Tschetter will explain the sculpting/building process.
