UNK will host the annual University of Nebraska Gold Classic on Monday, May 14, at the Kearney Country Club.
“The emphasis for this event is fellowship, fun and meeting new people from other campuses,” said Shelly Urkoski, UNK recreation coordinator and chair of the UNK Golf Classic Committee. “Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to play.”
The event, which is hosted by a different campus in a different community each year, is a four-person scramble. The $50 per person entry fee, due Monday, May 7, includes the 18-hole green fee, cart rental, driving range with unlimited balls, lunch, and team awards and individual pin prizes. There will be a
drawing for $25 off of 15 UNK participants’ entries.
The tournament committee will assign individuals to playing foursomes based on skill level: one lower, two medium and one higher handicapper. Flights will be determined after completion of the round. A minimum of eight shots will be required from each member of the group over the 18 holes. Additional rules will be provided with registration confirmation. Pairings will be available Thursday, May 3. Pin prizes and awards will be given upon completion of the round.
“Every attempt will be made to match up players from different campuses, so that players will meet new people,” Urkoski said. “Unfortunately, requests for specific playing partners cannot be accommodated.” The event is open to all University of Nebraska system employees—faculty, staff, administration and graduate teaching/research assistants.
The clubhouse and driving range open at 9:30 a.m. the day of the classic, with the shotgun start set for 11 a.m. Lunch will be at Noon. “We encourage everyone to stay for the post-golf activities and awards ceremony,” said Dr. Ken Nikels, a member of the UNKGolf Classic committee.
Registration forms are available from Urkoski. Once completed, the form and $50 fee (checks payable to: UNL Campus Recreation) are to be mailed to: UNL Campus Recreation, ATTN: Golf Classic, 55 Campus Recreation Center, P.O. Box 880232, Lincoln, NE 68588-0232.
