UNK- The percussion section of the University of Nebraska at Kearney Symphonic Band will literally “rock” their first concert of the semester Sunday, Feb. 22, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.

UNK Symphonic Band director Dr. Gary Davis said, “The percussion section really rocks… as they actually play rocks in this single-movement, high energy composition. It’s a really neat sound.”

The composition, “Dancing With the Light” is one of two original compositions by UNK music faculty that will be featured in the 3 p.m. concert Sunday. “Dancing With the Light” was written by Dr. Ron Crocker, UNK professor of music and associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities.

The second original composition to be performed was written by Dr. Michael Forbes. Dr. Forbes’ composition is titled “Cosmic Winds.”

Dr. Davis describes “Cosmic Winds” as “an exciting multi-meter, single movement piece that is challenging for every member of the Symphonic Band.”

Other selections to be performed are “Konigsmarsch” by Richard Strauss, “A Child’s Embrace” by Charles Rochester Young, “Incantation and Dance” by John Barnes Chance and “Who’s Who in Navy Blue” by John Phillip Sousa.
