UNK– Alpha Tau Omega, a fraternity at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, raised nearly $1,800 for the UNK Future Teaching and Learning Community.

Last November, the men held their second annual FlapJack Pancake Feed and raised close to $300. All proceeds went to the Future Teaching  and Learning Community (FTLC).

“The first pancake feed was held last spring in 2008 in honor of remembering Jose Martinez,” said Eugene Bichlmeier ofColumbus, president of Alpha Tau Omega. “He died in a tragic car accident in January of 2008. Now we have the pancake feed in memory of him.” All proceeds of the first pancake feed, $1,500, went to the family Jose Martinez.” Martinez was a FTLC student who lived with the ATOs. The FTLC group resides in University Residence South along with the fraternity.

This semester, Alpha Tau Omega will hold their third annual Bracke-TAU-logy event.

“Bracke-TAU-logy involves a competition with those who fill out brackets for March Madness basketball,” Bichlmeier said. “We give out prizes to the best and worst brackets. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross.”
