NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MORTAR BOARD AT UNK TAPPS MEMBERS, SELECTS OFFICERS FOR 2008-2009

Dr. Kenya Taylor
Mortar Board adviser, 308.865.8843

UNK- Each year, the national honor society Mortar Board selects an elite group of college seniors for membership at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Mortar Board recognizes college seniors for excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service. The advisers for the chapter are Drs. Kenya Taylor, dean of the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, and William Jurma, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities.

According to Dean Taylor, Mortar Board members represent the top scholars and leaders on their campuses while providing opportunities for continued leadership development, promoting service to colleges and universities, and encouraging lifelong contributions to the global community.

This group of 23 UNK seniors follows the national award-winning 2007-2008 chapter, which earned the Golden Torch Award and two Project Excellence awards from Mortar Board. The Project Excellence awards were for “A Book of My Own” project, which put books in the hands of needy area children, and the spring UNK Honors Convocation, an annual awards ceremony honoring outstanding UNK students.

The 2008-2009 members of Mortar Board are listed below, alphabetically by hometown, state and country. Offices held are noted in parenthesis after students’ names.
