PHI ETA SIGMA, NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY FOR OUTSTANDING FRESHMEN, INITIATES NEW MEMBERS AT UNK

Dr. Robert Luscher
Phi Eta Sigma adviser and English professor, 308.865.8115

The University of Nebraska at Kearney has announced the selection of 115 students for membership in Phi Eta Sigma national honor society.

“Membership is a prestigious honor, but more importantly it provides students with opportunities for leadership development and service,” said Dr. Robert Luscher, the group’s adviser and a professor in the English department.

Students who are invited to join Phi Eta Sigma have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 during their freshman year. The students were initiated along with new honorary members Brandon Benitz, assistant to the dean of Student Life, and Dr. Linda Van Ingen, an associate professor in the Department of History.

Phi Eta Sigma, a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, was founded in 1923. There are more than 300 chapters throughout the United States, with more than 700,000 members nationally.

The UNK chapter, chartered in 1984, engages in campus and community service, and promotes scholarship through annual awards to selected chapter members.
