The Asian-American Student Association (AASA) and the Office of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney are sponsoring two events in April in recognition of Asian-American Heritage Month.

The first event is a screening of “Becoming American: The Chinese Experience,” which will take place in Copeland Hall, Room 142, on Monday, April 9. The screening begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The movie is about the construction of the western leg of the Transcontinental Railroad, and how civil war and famine in southern China, coupled with the California Gold Rush, persuaded Chinese men to travel to America in search of a better life.

The second event is a panel discussion titled “Interracial Relationships.” The panel will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16, in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room.

Free and open to the public, there will be free refreshments for attendees.
