The Phi Alpha Theta history honor society and Sigma Tau Delta English honor society at the University of Nebraska at Kearney are collaborating to present a screening of “Fahrenheit 451” on Sunday, Feb. 25.
Free and open to the public, the film will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Copeland Hall, Room 140.
Based on the novel written by Ray Bradbury, “Fahrenheit 451” is a film about a dystopian future, where nation leaders discourage reading and critical thinking, citing these activities as a threat to their country.
Deprived of individualism, the citizens of the society watch their news and entertainment on a large television screen on the wall where broadcasts are continually transmitted to the “family,” which included all members of society.
The film follows the life of a firefighter named Guy Montag, who is responsible for burning “illegal” books and other literary works. However, he falls in love with a woman who collects the illegal books, and he soon begins to question his government’s motives after reading the books
