Tuba players of all ages will perform at the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s 13th annual Merry Tuba Christmas performance from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Under the direction of Dr. Bill Winkle of Chadron State College and Dr. Gary Davis, UNK professor of music and performing arts, the concert will feature low brass and tuba players from the area.

According to Dr. Davis, all low brass and tuba players from the area are invited to participate in the event. The performance will include “Deck the Halls,” “O Tannenbaum,” “Jingle Bells,” “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” and “White Christmas.”

According to Dr. Ron Crocker, UNK professor of music and performing arts, the concert  will be perfect for Christmas. “Tuba choirs possess a truly unique and beautiful sound appropriate for the holidays,” he said.

After the UNK concert, the ensemble will travel to Grand Island for a 1:30 p.m. performance at the Conestoga Mall.

Both concerts are free and open to the public.

Registration and rehearsal will take place Saturday morning before the concert. Registration begins at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. rehearsal. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 308.865.8618.
