Future physical therapists, nurses and doctors can get a chance to gather information about employment in the medical field by attending the Health Careers Fair Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Free and open to the public, the fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Nebraskan Student Union, Room 238.
More than 350 high schools from Nebraska and Northern Kansas were invited to the fair, and attendance in the past has ranged between 250 and 350 students.
In addition to collecting health career information and handouts, participants can also meet with representatives from 30 professional schools and clinical programs.
According to Peggy Abels, director of UNK Health Sciences, attendees can find information regarding careers in pharmacy, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiography, nursing, respiratory therapy, optometry, chiropractic, clinical lab science and osteopathy.
Abels said many of the UNK departments with majors relating to health care fields will be represented at the fair, as well as Good Samaritan Hospital and the Central Nebraska Area Health Education Center.
Breakout sessions are scheduled throughout the day. Some of the sessions include a student panel, a panel of health care professionals, a session on health science education, a murder mystery sponsored by the biology department and a tour of the Human Performance Lab.
At 2 p.m., UNK Admissions will be offering campus tours.
