FAMILY DAY 2005 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, SEPT. 30, AT UNK

The annual Band Day Parade, barbecue, tours, workshop presentations and receptions with faculty and administrators are all a part of Family Day 2005 set for Saturday, Sept. 30, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
    
Registration will take place in the Atrium of the Nebraskan Student Union from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Activities begin at 9 a.m. with the UNK Band Day Parade. The Band Day Parade will feature area bands that will begin by going north from Railroad Street and Central Avenue, and continue west on 27th  Street to the UNK campus.
    
There will be three educational workshops beginning at 9:15 a.m. The workshops, and workshop locations, include: “Exploring the Sky,” Bruner Hall of Science Planetarium; “Technology Today,” Nebraskan Student Union Computer Lab; and “Paying for Education, ” Nebraskan Student Union Oak Room.
    
A campus tour will be given from 9:30-10:30 a.m. To reserve a place on the tour, contact the Admissions Office at 308.865.8526.
    
Another round of educational workshops will run from 10-10:30 a.m. Workshop topics and locations include “Chemistry Spectacular,” Bruner Hall of Science Mary Morse Lecture Hall; “Exploring the Sky,” Bruner Hall of Science Planetarium; “Technology Today,” Nebraska Student Union Computer Lab; and “Paying for Education,” Nebraskan Student Union Oak Room.
    
Students and their families will join members of the faculty and administration for coffee and conversation from 10:30-11 a.m. at receptions hosted by each of five colleges and the Office of Academic Advising. Receptions and locations include:  College of Business and Technology, Nebraskan Student Union Sandhills Room; College of Education, Nebraskan Student Union Room 142; College of Fine Arts and Humanities, Nebraskan Student Union Second Floor Balcony; College of Natural and Social Sciences, Nebraskan Student Union Cedar Room; College of Nursing, Nebraskan Student Union 142A; and Deciding Students, Nebraskan Student Union Fireplace Lounge.
    
There will be a Family Barbeque south of Cope Fountain at 11:15 a.m. Advance tickets are necessary and available using the UNK Family Day registration form available at the Nebraskan Student Union Information Desk. Tickets are $5 for parents, $2 for children 12 and under, $2 for UNK students with a 2005 Campus Meal Plan, and $5 for UNK students without a 2005 Campus Meal Plan.
    
A Pre-game Spectacular, presented by the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band under the direction of Dr. Neal Schnoor, begins at 12:50 p.m. before the UNK vs. Mesa State football game begins at 1 p.m. The UNK volleyball team will compete against Regis University at 7 p.m. in the UNK Health and Sports Center. “Families are welcome to join their students for dinner from 4-7 p.m. in the Commons Dining Room of the Nebraskan Student Union,” said Jami Schaffnitt, coordinator of University/Student Activities. Guests will pay at the door.
