Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity is encouraging all male incoming freshmen planning to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney next fall to apply for two scholarships, worth a combined total of $1,500.

The UNK ATO chapter is offering a $500 scholarship to the most qualified male freshman student who exemplifies scholarships, leadership and community involvement. Instructions and application forms can be found online at: http://www.unk.edu/studentlife/student_org/ATO/, under the “Scholarships” link.

The second scholarship, valued at $1,000, will be awarded by the ATO National Fraternity. An online application can be located at: www.joinato.org.

When asked why they decided to offer the scholarships, Chapter President Brian Kimmons, a UNK student from Monroe, N.Y., said: “Our organizations are here to foster and encourage scholastic achievements and community involvement. By offering our scholarships, we can reward exceptional high school students, as well as provide support for their development during their college years.”

During Greek Community Scholarship Awards Night held recently on the UNK campus, the ATO’s received the Most Improved GPA and the Highest New Member GPA (grade point average) Awards.

The deadline for the local scholarship is June 1, 2006, and for the national scholarship, the due date is Aug. 1, 2006.
