associate director of the Nebraskan Student Union, 308.865.8523
Singer/songwriter/guitarist John Rush will perform Friday, March 3, at 8:30 p.m. in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Nebraskan Student Union Atrium for the Mochas and Music Coffeehouse series.
Rush, who first learned to play the guitar at the age of 12 while growing up in Huntsville, Ala., majored in classical guitar at the University of Georgia.
In his performances, Rush allows his audience to plot the course of his show by passing around a song list containing more than 500 songs that he knows by heart and then taking requests. He incorporates a guitar ‘loop,’ which allows him to record his sound and play a lead over it. His writing influences include Mark Knopfler, Paul Simon, Tom Petty and Neil Young.
Rush has recently released his debut CD, They Don’t Know My Name, which ncludes two tracks that are featured on the soundtrack to the film Autumn andEverything After. He was a finalist for 2002-03 Favorite Special Event Music Entertainer by CampusAwards.com.
“I write some songs with some real depth to them, but my goal as a performer is to help people have a good time,” Rush said. “If I’m lucky, maybe I can make them think a little in the process.”
The performance is free and open to the public.
