Dr. Ken Nikels, dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, today announced the appointment of Dr. Carol Lomicky to the position of associate dean of Graduate Studies and Research.
In making the announcement, Dean Nikels said, “Carol will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the graduate office. We look forward to her many contributions to our efforts to further enhance graduate education at UNK.”
Dr. Lomicky, a professor in the UNK Department of Communication, has served on the University of Nebraska Advisory Council for Gender Equality, UNK Assessment Committee, and chaired both the UNK Chancellor’s Gender Equity Advisory Committee and the Planning and Policy Committee of the UNK Graduate Council. She currently
serves on the Institutional Review Board.
Dr. Lomicky is an award-winning educator. She has received the Outstanding Teacher Award from Mortar Board and the Great Ideas for Teachers (GIFT) Award, a national honor from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Her scholarly work has also earned her recognition. She received the Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics in 2000 and the Fine Arts & Humanities Research Mentor Award.
In accepting the appointment to associate dean, Dr. Lomicky said she was “very pleased with the vote of confidence.” Noting that the new position would be a challenging responsibility, she said that her experience as an educator and as a member of various university committees has given her a broad perspective of the mission of UNK as well as the mission of the office of Graduate Studies and Research. Her agenda will be centered on working with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) as well as with academic affairs and recruitment issues for graduate students.
