Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) members at the University of Nebraska at Kearney are asking: “Do YOU have a kid with some financial savvy at your house?”
If so, the student has an opportunity to “show off those ‘smarts’ and win some prizes,” according to Dr. Susan Jensen, SIFE Team faculty adviser.
The SIFE team is sponsoring a $mart Money Kid Essay Contest as part of the community-wide $martMoney Week activities. The contest has three divisions–grades 1-4, grades 5-8 and grades 9-12. The winning entry in each age division will receive a savings account, courtesy of Platte Valley State Bank, be invited to the $mart Money Week Kickoff Breakfast, have his/her photo featured in the Kearney Hub and other recognition.
“Everyone who participates in the contest will receive a nominal prize as well,” Dr. Jensen said.
Entry forms have been distributed to area schools. Additional entry forms are available on the UNK $mart Money Website: http://www.unk.edu/acad/cee/index.php?id=5905, or by e-mailing Dr. Jensen at: jensens@unk.edu.
“It would also be fine for entrants to drop off their forms at my UNK office, which is Room 255W in the West Center Building,” she said.
