Eileen Jahn
director of Nebraskats, 308.865.8618

This year, the talent of 14 University of Nebraska at Kearney vocalists will fill the stage as the Nebraskats.

The show choir, under the direction of Eileen Jahn, will perform for many UNK functions as well as for special events in surrounding communities. The group will also perform on tour which is set for the end of March. Members of the group audition in the spring, competing against approximately 40 – 50 other students. Students do not have to be music majors to audition.

Erin (Kosmicki) Schledewitz of Holdrege is returning for her fourth year as a Nebraskat. Others returning for their third year in Nebraskats are Russtanna Faimon of Grand Island, Brette Covington of North Platte, Brad Bohn of Ravenna  and Dirk Riley of Windsor, Colo.

The Nebraskats’ will perform Friday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall for the University of Nebraska Joint Show Choirs Concert.

This ensemble has been in existence longer than any currently performing show choir at the collegiate level in Nebraska. Founded in 1967, the Nebraskats are now entering their 38th year of performing.

While the group has many members studying a field related to music, the group also encompasses many other non-music departments on the UNK campus. Among the other majors represented in the group are pre-medicine, exercise science, political science and psychology.
