Sixteen University of Nebraska at Kearney students have been selected to serve as Chancellor’s Ambassadors for the 2005-2006 school year, according to Kathleen Smith, vice chancellor for University Relations.
Of the 16 selected for 2005-2006, five served this past year. Among the five is Tom McCarty ofBeatrice who will serve as the Ambassador’s coordinator for the year. Also returning are seniors Elizabeth Obermeier of Aurora, Anne Drinkwalter of Chadron , Sylvia Mihalik of Roznava, Slovakia, and graduate student Joshua Tolin of Casper, WY.
“Ambassadors are chosen based on their involvement in campus activities, academic achievement, leadership ability, knowledge of UNK and communication skills,” Smith said. The Ambassadors help host UNK functions and serve as campus tour guides for visitors such as foreign diplomats, celebrities, alumni and government officials.
The group of returning student Ambassadors will be joined by 11 new student Ambassadors for 2005-2006 as well.
Each Ambassador, upon selection, takes part in a specialized training program that includes training in etiquette, campus history and other topics.
