Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Nebraska at Kearney raised $8,000 at the first annual Dr. Kent Estes Memorial Golf Tournament held Saturday at the Kearney Country Club.
The $8,000 will help establish two memorial scholarships in honor of Dr. Kent Estes, who taught in and chaired the UNK Department of Counseling and School Psychology. After fighting a battle with cancer and then returning to the classroom last fall, Dr. Estes passed away in January.
“Through the generous support of the Kearney community, and UNK faculty and staff, Pi Kappa Alpha will be able to establish the two scholarships,” said R.J. Gildea of Lincoln, tournament director. The men of Pi Kappa Alpha organized the event with the assistance of the Kearney Country Club.
Gildea noted: “The event was an incredible tribute to a man who has touched countless lives. We are extremely proud that our fraternity was able to assist with such an outstanding cause.”
Anyone wishing to contribute to the scholarships may do so through the University of Nebraska Foundation.
