Lindsay Roper is the Featured Soloist (Oboe) at the UNK Wind Ensemble Concert on Thursday, Feb. 24

Lindsay Roper, a music education major from Pierce, will be the featured soloist with the University of Nebraska at Kearney Wind Ensemble Thursday, Feb. 24, on the campus.

The Wind Ensemble concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Roper, a four-year member of the Wind Ensemble, was the co-winner of the 2004 UNK Concerto-Aria Competition, sharing the award with senior saxophonist Sarah Reeks. Roper will graduate in May of 2006 and plans on earning a master’s degree in oboe performance, along with teaching music in a public school in Nebraska.

Dr. Gary Davis, professor of music and performing arts, will conduct the performance that includesToccata Marziale by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Cocerto for Oboe by Domenico Cimarosa and arranged by Jerry Lackey, Symphonic Movement by Vaclav Nelhybel, Appalachian Air: My Shepherd Will Supply My Need arranged by Michael Brown and The Divine Comedy by Robert W. Smith.

The Wind Ensemble is the auditioned band in the Department of Music and Performing Arts during the second semester of each academic year.  The members are listed alphabetically below with the principle player in italics.
