WHAT: University of Nebraska at Kearney Jazz Rock Ensemble Fall Concert

WHEN: Saturday, December 4, 2004, 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, University of Nebraska at Kearney

COST: Free, open to the public.

DIRECTOR: Dr. James F. Payne, Professor of Music.

MUSIC: The Jazz Rock Ensemble will present a concert of big band sounds with an emphasis on music written in the last ten years.  They will perform jazz pieces styled in several types of swing, Latin rock, rock shuffle, samba, contemporary jazz, and funk. The music will come from the libraries of Chuck Mangione, Duke Ellington, Les Hooper’s Grand Band, Frank Mantooth, Bob Mintzer’s Big Band, Maynard Ferguson Big Bop Nouveau, and a special number made famous by Glenn Miller in 1941. There will be solos by guitar, alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone, and drums.

SPECIAL FEATURE;  Dr. Payne will perform a flugelhorn solo in a Latin rock style made famous by Chuck Mangione, a jazz musician who performed much of the music for the 1980 olympics.
