Foster Field is looking more like a football field again.

The home of the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers is undergoing a major construction and renovation project this summer. The project includes a new FieldTurf playing surface, lights, scoreboard and public announcement system. After nearly six weeks of field preparation–which included removing the old field, installing a new drainage system and putting a base down–installation of the new surface began.

The FieldTurf installation is expected to be complete by the end of July. New lights were put up in mid-June, and the new scoreboard is going up this week.

This summer’s construction and renovation is the first of three construction phases. Future plans are to address seating, press box, locker rooms and other needed improvements.

Other campuses that have, or will have, FieldTurf surfaces by fall include the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Hastings College and North Platte High School. Foster Field is also home to the Kearney High Bearcats.
