Julia Mowers, a tutor in Center for Academic Success at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has been named recipient of the Distinguished Tutor Award.
Mowers, a graduate student from David City, is working towards an M.F.A. in English composition. One of 34 academic tutors on the campus, she tutored students in English, political science, and writing and study skills.
“Julia always goes over and above to serve students,” said David Brandt, UNK Student Support Services adviser. “She is always willing to help. We could always count on Julia.” In addition, Mowers has been instrumental in programming the writing workshops offered by the Center for Academic Success.
Nominations for the award can come from administrators, faculty members, staff, peer tutors and students. The Distinguished Tutor Award is given to recognize tutors for their contributions and achievements in the fall and spring semesters each year.
