Department of Music, 308-865-8609

The combined voices of the University of Nebraska at Kearney Choraleers and Women’s Choir will perform Mass of the Children,at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 24th. St. and Second Ave. in Kearney.

Mass of the Children was composed by John Rutter in 2003. He was commissioned to compose the Mass by Mid-American Productions for a performance in Carnegie Hall while the 2003 National American Choral Directors Convention was being held in New York city. The Mass incorporates both Latin and English text.

Rutter described the work, saying, “…the work (has) the framework of a complete day, from waking to sleeping, with which other texts and moods appear like events in that day or landmarks in a life.”

Featured female soloists include Deanna Tiller and Sarah Anderson, both of Kearney; Elizabeth Odle of North Platte; and Sarah Reeks of Omaha. Male soloists include: Brian Glaser and Daniel Korensky, both of Grand Island, and Matthew Nicholson of Plattsmouth.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, is under the direction of Dr. David Bauer.
