Applications are now being taken for The Gold Torch Society, a University of Nebraska at Kearney mentoring programfor UNK undergraduate and alumni women, Kristin Howard, assistant director of the UNK Alumni Association, announced today.
“Each year, 25 undergraduate women students are accepted for membership,” Howard said. “Those accepted will share a weekend this fall with successful UNK alumni women–including teachers, business owners, journalists, public relations directors and many more exceptional women in various fields.
“Gold Torch is a valuable opportunity for UNK undergraduate women to gain real-world perspectives and network with a great group of amazing alumni,” she said. “A number of wonderful personal and professional relationships have resulted.” The application deadline is March 1. The UNK Alumni Association established The Gold Torch Society in 2000, and since then, alumni have returned to campus to mentor and network with students. In 2004, Gold Torch Society weekend will be Sept. 17-18 at the UNK Alumni House.
