Approximately 700 vocal and instrumental music students will perform in the 2004 Honor Band and Choral Clinic Concert at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Health and Sports Center.

“The students are coming from 112 Nebraska and Kansas high schools,” said Dr. James Payne, clinic director and music professor. More than 1,000 instrumentalists and vocalists auditioned for a place in one of the three choirs and two bands.

“The musicians will rehearse during the day under the baton of the clinicians, learning new ideas and methods of making music,” Dr. Payne said.

Dr. David Bauer, UNK professor of music and director of choirs, will direct the Honor Choir. Guest clinicians Doran Johnson, director of choirs at Westside High School in Omaha, will direct the Women’s Choir, and David Sackschewsky, director of choirs at Northwest High School in Grand Island, will direct the Festival Choir.

Dr. Robert Belser, professor of music and director of bands at the University of Wyoming, will direct the Honor Band, and Dr. Gary Davis, UNK professor of music and UNK director of Bands, will direct the Festival Band.

Admission to the concert is $3; participants and preschool children are admitted free.
