The Fifth Annual Augie Nelson Golf Classic, sponsored by the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, was held April 5 at the Meadowlark Golf Course. The tournament raised $9250 for the Kidney Foundation. Even though the 132 entrants had to battle snow and cold, everyone there understood the significance of such an event.

The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity holds this philanthropic event each year to not only benefit the Kidney Foundation, but also to honor Augie Nelson, an alum of UNK and their fraternity that has had two kidney transplants.

We try to involve our alumni and other people in this event so they can gain a sense of well-being while helping a good cause and having a lot of fun. This tournament just keeps growing each year, Matt Springer, current Sigma Phi Epsilon member and tournament coordinator, said.
