Music Department Honors Recital to be Held

The Music and Performing Arts Department of the University of Nebraska at Kearney will present the fall term Honors Recital on Sunday, December 15. The program will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The students applied to perform in the program and were approved by their instrument or voice teacher and a faculty committee. To be eligible, students must achieve a high level of musical competency and have at least sophomore class standing. The students performing are:

Valerie Lee of Burwell is senior music education major. Valerie has played clarinet in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Pep Band, and was a member of the marching band as a clarinet section leader and color guard member. She has performed in the Choraleers, Opera Workshop, and Collegium. She is the winner of the 2000-2001 Concerto/Aria competition and has appeared as a soprano soloist with the UNK wind ensemble. Valerie will be performing Sonata for Clarinet and Piano for the concert.

Angela Leising of Arapahoe is a junior music performance major with an emphasis in pedagogy. She is currently the accompanist for UNK’s Woman’s Chorus. She will be performing the first movement of the Pinao Concerto No. 2 on the piano.

Michael McNeil of Almena, Kansas is a senior vocal performance major. Last fall, he played “Jack” in the musical Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim. He is currently a member of the Choraleers, Collegium, Opera Workshop, and an active member of Delta Omicron. He will be performing Toccata in E minor on the organ.

Kumiko Morishita of Okayama, Japan is a junior double majoring in German and Music. She served as concertmistress at Seishin Junior/Senior High School Orchestra. She performed with the Omaha Youth Symphony before joining the Kearney Area Symphony Orchestra where she currently serves as concertmistress. She will be performing Allemande on her violin for the concert.

Allegra Woollen of Ord is a senior Music Education major with a K-12 Field Endorsement. She has been selected to play a solo concerto with the Wind Ensemble in the 2003 Spring Semester. Allegra will perform Fantasy Pieces on the clarinet for the concert.

Candice Younghans of Hershey is a senior Musical Theatre major. She previously studied theater for two years at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte where she was in many plays and musicals. She has performed in such shows as Cabaret, Rumors, Closer Than Ever, and Into the Woods at UNK. Candice will be singing If I never knew you (from Pocahontas).

The concert is free and open to the public.
