The University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Geography and Earth Science and the UNK Geography Club will be hosting Geography Awareness Week November 18-22. Dr. Robert Diffendal, a research geologist from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, will present the keynote address “Geologic Hazards in Nebraska and Beyond” on Monday, November 18 at 4:00 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. in Copeland Hall room 142.
Dr. Diffendal is one of Nebraska’s foremost geologists having published more than 200 research papers, maps and abstracts, most of which are on the geology of Nebraska. Additionally, Dr. Diffendal has studied extensively in China and has served on the geology faculty at several Chinese Universities.
The Geography Club will also be hosting an informational table on Wednesday,
November 20 from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. in the first floor hallway of Copeland Hall on the UNK campus. Students and faculty will be providing basic information on geology and will be giving demonstrations on technology used in geology.
These events are free and open to the UNK campus and Kearney community.
