A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the University of Nebraska at Kearney for the new addition to the Nebraskan Student Union. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 9 at 11:30 a.m.
Speakers include: Chancellor Doug Kristensen, Student Body President Ryan Hatt, Kearney Mayor Pete Kotsiopulos, President of the Kearney Chamber of Commerce Byron Hansen, and Student Union Director Sharon Pelc.
Presidents of campus student organizations have been invited to take part in the ribbon cutting and the public is welcome to attend.
The renovations to the Nebraskan began in December of 2000 and added 25,000 square feet. The newly remodeled area added:
- A 24-hour computer lab
- Convenient, stand-up email stations
- Starbucks coffee shop
- An expanded food court featuring Taco Bell, Coyote Jacks, Blimpie Subs and Loper Express
- Additional office space for student organizations including Student Activities Council (SAC), Residence Hall Association (RHA), and Inter Fraternity Council (IFC)
- Expanded meeting rooms
