Laughter and excitement will fill the air on Friday, August 23 as students make their way to the UNK campus. Once again Blue and Gold Day activities at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will kick off another school year.

At 8 a.m., the residence halls open for students. A business showcase will begin at 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. near the Cope Memorial Fountain. Chancellor Doug Kristensen will host students, their families and the Kearney community at the Chancellor’s Picnic from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The evening continues with the band, “Gilligan Loves Maryann,” a husband-wife duo from Florida. The group was voted Best Campus Band in 1998 and again in 2002 by the National Association for Promotion of Campus Activities. They will perform near the Cope Memorial Fountain from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

“Over 110 businesses have already signed up to take part in the business showcase,” said Sharon Pelc, director of the Nebraskan Student Union. “It’s going to be an exciting day and the business showcase is a great way to welcome students and their families to Kearney. There’s still time to register.” Pelc said.

For more information on the business showcase, call the Nebraskan Student Union at UNK at 865-8523. There is no charge to reserve a booth.
