Sommers Elected to New Position

Mary Sommers, director of Financial Aid at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, was elected as the president-elect of the Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (RMASFAA). She will be installed at the annual meeting October 13-16, 2002 in Bismarck, North Dakota and will serve for one year before taking on duties as the president. As president she will also serve as a voting representative on the board of directors for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

Sommers began her career at UNK in 1992 as a financial aid counselor. She was promoted to assistant director, associate director and has been the director of the Financial Aid Office since 2000. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1982 and her Master’s degree from UNK in 1994. She is a graduate of Columbus High School.

RMASFAA is a professional association of institutions and individuals who administer financial aid and serve students, parents and institutions in the states of Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. RMASFAA works with Congress, the Department of Education and other interested entities for the establishment or betterment of programs to assist students in achieving their educational goals.
