The UNK Adventures in Chemistry Camp, a two-week camp for high school sophomores and juniors, will be offered this summer at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and sponsored by the UNK Honors Program and Department of Chemistry.
The camp dates are July 14-27. The UNK Department of Chemistry is currently accepting student nominations from Nebraska high school science teachers. High school sophomores and juniors who wish to apply for one of the 16 openings should contact their science teacher. Chemistry course experience is recommended, but not required. All nominated students will receive more information and an application form, which must be completed and returned by March 18.
The format of the UNK camp is unique in that students are divided into small groups to work directly with a chemistry faculty member on an open-ended laboratory project. During the projects, students learn college-level laboratory techniques and gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art instrumentation and computer facilities. Field trips are included to allow students to learn about careers in chemistry.
The camp is part of the Summer Synergy offerings at UNK. Summer Synergy includes short-term classes and workshops, as well as selected special events and enrichment activities.
