UNK BAND DAY

The University of Nebraska at Kearney’s annual Band Day, a competition and parade featuring Nebraska High School bands, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 29 in downtown Kearney. This year 40 bands from all across Nebraska will be participating.

“The most important thing that the bands get to do is to come and show off all the hard work they have done this year to a large appreciative crowd. The people in Kearney are very supportive of each band no matter the size,” said Dr. Neal Schnoor, assistant professor of music at UNK.

The bands will be judged during the parade in the morning and the awards ceremony will be held at Foster Field at noon. Afterwards, some of the bands will perform their field shows and receive feedback from four judges on woodwind, brass, percussion, and the overall show.

“I would like to see the students come away with a sense of accomplishment as well as learn what to improve on for future field competitions this year,” said Schnoor.
