John Horvath, former director of the Tri-Valley Distance Education Consortium at ESU 10 in Kearney, has accepted the position of Director for the Center for Distance Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

“UNK is very excited to have a person of John’s caliber and experience take the leadership position for our distance education initiatives. We look forward to many exciting advances in course delivery and student services,” said Dr. Barbara Audley, Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Communications and Dean of Continuing Education.

Horvath brings extensive experience in distance education as well as many connections throughout Nebraska technical community to this position. He will be managing the former Learning Materials Center operation, the Rural Health Education Distance Learning Research Center and the UNK Tri-Valley fiber operation on campus and at College Park. Previous to his Tri-Valley position, he held a similar position with the Southwest Distance Learning Consortium based in Trenton, NE. He also has many years of classroom experience as a secondary business and computer teacher in Anchorage, Alaska.

“My goals for this position include providing extended statewide connectivity for UNK and also providing intercampus connectivity which will make the existing campus sites more efficient,” said Horvath.
