JAZZ ROCK ENSEMBLE TO PRESENT FALL CONCERT

UNK-The University of Nebraska at Kearney Jazz Rock Ensemble will present their fall concert on Wed., Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. The concert will be held in the Fine Arts Recital Hall on the UNK campus and is free to the public. Dr. James Payne, Professor of Music at UNK commented, “The UNK Jazz Rock Ensemble brings together UNK students from all over the state to play great jazz and rock music from the best professional big bands in the nation.”

The Jazz Rock Ensemble will present a concert of music written for the big band with an emphasis on the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. They will perform jazz pieces styled in several types of swing, jazz samba, blues, contemporary jazz, jazz fusion, and jazz rock. The music will come from the libraries of Stan Kenton, Tom Kubis, Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass, Maynard Ferguson, USAF Airmen of Note, and University of Northern Colorado Lab Band I. There will be solos by guitar, alto, tenor, and soprano sax, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums. As a special attraction, Dr. James F. Payne in his 27th year at UNK will perform a trumpet solo during the performance.
