JOURNALISM STUDENTS RECEIVE NATIONAL AWARDS

UNK-Six University of Nebraska at Kearney students from the Department of Communication and one recent graduate have received national awards in the Society for Collegiate Journalists competition for writing, photography and newspaper page design.

Receiving first-place awards were: Jane Roseland of Springfield, feature writing; Mike Bockoven of Milford, spot news photography; Josh Fielder of Grand Island, feature photography and sports photography; and Regan Anson of Brunswig, news writing.

Other award winners were: Ted Graham of Omaha, second place, feature writing; Sara Struckman of Brule, honorable mention, feature writing; and Jack Sheard of Waverly, honorable mention, front page layout design.

“More UNK students took first-place honors this year in this competition than ever before,” said Carol Lomicky, Society for Collegiate Journalists faculty advisor.

All winning entries appeared in the Antelope Newspaper during the 1999 academic year. The students are members of the UNK chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists.
