PHOTO GALLERY: New Cope Fountain adds splash of color to campus

Located between the Nebraskan Student Union and Calvin T. Ryan Library, Cope Fountain is a popular gathering place where students, staff, faculty and visitors can relax on the UNK campus.

Dedicated in 1995 in honor of the late Ron and Carol Cope, who were longtime UNK and community supporters, the original fountain was removed and replaced as part of a larger sanitary and storm sewer project.

The new Cope Fountain, completed this summer, adds features that make it more of a year-round destination while improving accessibility. The design includes a large, central water column within an armature feature surrounded by 20 smaller jets on a flat surface. A lighting system allows for nighttime displays and the jets can be programmed to spray in different combinations.

Sitting stones line the fountain’s perimeter.
