KEARNEY – The Big Event will bring hundreds of students, faculty and staff from the University of Nebraska at Kearney together to volunteer across the community April 11.
The Big Event is the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation. The event started at Texas A&M in 1982 and aims to give back to communities through one day of service.
It’s a way for students from campuses across the country to say “thank you” to the residents in their local communities. For more than10 years, UNK students have participated in the annual event to show their appreciation for Kearney by completing service projects.
Last year, more than 800 students participated in The Big Event at over 40 job sites. Service projects include anything from painting a fence to doing yard work to cleaning.
To volunteer or host a job site, go to http://unkbigevent.weebly.com. Registration is due by March 13.
