Platte Valley Medical Clinic providing student health services at UNK

KEARNEY – Platte Valley Medical Clinic, a division of Kearney Regional Medical Center, and UNK Student Health and Counseling are partnering to offer expanded access to health services on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus. Beginning Aug. 24, an advanced practice provider from Platte Valley Medical Clinic will be available four days a week for student appointments. Growing Need: Counseling services help students overcome obstacles, succeed at UNK

Nearly 400 clients made close to 1,000 visits during the first four months of the academic year – a roughly 40 percent increase in total sessions compared to the same period in 2017.

Recent UNK graduate Bridget Langin used UNK’s Student Health and Counseling services after she was in a motor vehicle accident that killed two people, including her friend and fellow UNK student Amber Frerichs. Diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, she met regularly with UNK counselors to cope with the flashbacks, anxiety and overwhelming sadness. (Photo by Corbey R.
