LOPER LOW BRASS CHAMBER RECITAL SET FOR THURSDAY, OCT. 18

Dr. Seth Fletcher
Department of Music and Performing Arts lecturer, 308.865.8632

The Loper Low Brass ensemble recital is set for Thursday, Oct. 18, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The recital, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Fine Arts Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The recital will showcase musical numbers such as “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa, “Fanfare” by George Philipp Telemann and three pieces from “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

The Loper Low Brass ensemble performs a chamber music recital each semester and tours locally.

According to Dr. Seth Fletcher, music and performing arts senior lecturer, learning to play chamber music, music for small groups originally intended for spaces smaller than a concert hall, such as a parlor of a home, is an important part of a student’s musical education.

“The skills needed and insights gained from performing this kind of music are different from playing with a large ensemble or performing as a soloist,” Dr. Fletcher said.

The Loper Low Brass will also be accompanied by Blake Lyon, band director from Holdrege High School, on the euphonium. According to Dr. Fletcher, Lyon volunteers his time to perform with the Loper Low Brass on special occasions.
