Children between the ages of 7 and 15 can learn the basic techniques of karate and be introduced to Okinawan Kobudo this summer at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The course will cover the basics of Okinawan Shuri-ryu Karate. The basics that will be taught include stances, blocks, punches, strikes, kicks, basic exercises, formal exercises and self-defense.
Dr. Yozan Mosig, an 8th degree black belt in karate and Kobudo, will teach the course. Dr. Mosig has 42 years experience in martial arts and has won five world championship titles. He has trained a half dozen junior world champions.
The course will meet 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 18-July 11, in the Wolfe Lab, which is located on the third floor of Copeland Hall on the UNK campus.
