University of Nebraska at Kearney Chancellor Gladys Styles Johnston recently announced the appointment of Dr. Barbara Audley, dean of the Division of Continuing Education, as interim assistant vice chancellor for marketing, effective July 1.
“The University has long recognized the need for heightened emphasis on marketing its programs to its various constituencies, and this move will strengthen UNK’s ability to conduct effective marketing and advertising programs,” Chancellor Johnston said. “Dr. Audley brings considerable experience to the position from her previous experience in the private sector as well as her academic background.”
“I am excited about the challenge of developing and implementing a marketing plan for the University,” Dr. Audley said. “UNK has many strengths that need to be better known. UNK is one of Nebraska’s better kept secrets.”
Dr. Audley holds a bachelor of science degree from California State University, Long Beach, in marketing, and a Doctor of Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Dr. Audley came to UNK in 1997 after directing the Continuing Education Extension and Summer Session Program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She also spent several years in an advertising and public relations agency in Los Angeles early in her career.
Earlier she served as director of Lifelong Learning and Outreach at South Dakota State University and as the assistant dean of Extended Programs for California State University, Dominguez Hills. While at South Dakota State, the South Dakota Association for Lifelong Learning named Dr. Audley Adult Educator of the Year and honored her with the President’s Award for Service to Adult Education. More recently Dr. Audley was named Kiwanian of the Year for 2000 by the Kearney Noon Kiwanis Club.
