The Criminal Justice Club at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is sponsoring a fund-raiser now through Nov. 15 to help the S.A.F.E. Center, a Kearney shelter for domestic assault victims and their families.
“The funds the students raise will be used to help the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who need shelter and other services provided by the S.A.F.E. Center,” said Dr. Beth Wiersma, Criminal Justice Club adviser and a member of the S.A.F.E. Center board of directors. “The center serves both adults and children.”
“We have a number of students who volunteer at the S.A.F.E. Center, so it is an agency of interest to them,” Dr. Wiersma said.
For their fund-raiser, the Criminal Justice Club is selling candles, with $5 of each $10 sale going to the S.A.F.E. Center, she said, adding that the $5 is tax deductible.
Anyone interested in purchasing a candle can contact Criminal Justice Club adviser Dr. Wiersma by phone at: (308) 865-8775 or email:wiersmaba@unk.edu). Orders will be taken until Nov. 15. The candles are expected to arrive by Dec. 15.
