Dr. Susan Jensen
SIFE adviser, 308.865.8189
The University of Nebraska at Kearney Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team took two top awards, Rookie of the Year and First Runner Up, and Dr. Susan Jensen, the SIFE faculty adviser, was named a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow during regional competitions held in St. Louis, Mo., earlier this month.
“The team matched its educational outreach projects against other SIFE teams at the 2004 Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Regional Competition and Career Opportunity Fair, and a panel of judges honored UNK SIFE with two top awards,” Dr. Jensen said. “This is a tremendous accomplishment. I couldn’t be prouder of these students.”
According to Dr. Jensen, SIFE encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations, using their knowledge to better their communities through educational outreach projects.
“The UNK SIFE team was just formed in October of 2003, but it has already had an impact on the region through its workshops and activities directed at elementary, middle school, high school and college students,” she said.
“The team’s awards reflect not only their hard work and dedication throughout the school year in completing quality projects, but also their efforts in putting together a strong written annual report and oral presentation,” Dr. Jensen said. “The judges were most impressed with the team’s dedication and creativity.”
