Dr. Jeffrey M. Smith, director of the Counselor Education Program at Creighton University in Omaha, is the keynote speaker for the second annualJustice For All conference, which will be held Friday, Feb. 20, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Dr. Smith will give the keynote presentation on The Paradox of Advocacy: Honor and Hazard at 1 p.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Great Room.
Justice For All is a daylong conference committed to empowering members of the educational and mental health communities to actively respond to the reality of social injustice and the need for advocacy, according to Emily Pfeifer of Grand Island, vice-president of Chi Sigma Iota counseling honor society. The conference opens with registration 8-8:45 a.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union.
Other speakers for this event and their topics are: Kristen Houser, B.S., a member of the board of directors of the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence and co-chair of the Rural Issues Committee of the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, Action Heals…Just Do It; D. Moritz, M.S., assistant director for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Programs and Services at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, From Privilege to Ally; Kurt Siedschlaw, J.D., UNK associate professor of criminal justice, If You Want To Seek Justice, Try Walking in Two Worlds; and Carol T. Mitchell, Ph.D., associate professor of teacher education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Recovering the Lost Talent in Education: WhoAgencies from across the area will also be available during breaks to speak with participants about the services they provide to diverse populations.

The conference is sponsored jointly by Chi Sigma Iota, the UNK Department of Counseling and School Psychology, the Nebraska Counseling Association and the UPFF. Eligible participants can earn four Continuing Education Units (CEU’s).
The registration fee, which includes lunch, is: $10 for UNK Faculty/Staff/Students, $25 for students from other campuses; $45 for CSI/NCA members; and $55 for all other professionals.
